Railways in Rajahmundry
Rajahmundry broad gauge railway lines are a part of Howrah-Chennai main line. It is connected with Vijawada at one side and Vishakhapatnam on the other side. There are about 22 trains running to and fro Rajahmundry.
The transportation using railway started between the years 1845-1852 in Rajahmundry. The busiest railway station is a part of south central railway with over three working platforms.
Airways in Rajahmundry
Rajahmundry airport is located 18km from the city near Madhurapudi. The airlines which provide service in this city are Jet Airways and Spicejet. A terminal has been added in the airport and the expansion of the runway is being done for bigger aircraft.
Many commercial flights fly from the airport to Hyderabad. ONGC uses this airport for offshore oil
transportation. The runway is also used by private helicopters of ONGC and other companies. The service of charted planes is also available on the airport.
The airport was constructed during the British era covering an area of about 366 acres. The airport was served by Vayudoot from 1985-1994 and VIF airways in 1995. After the collaboration of Andhra Pradesh Government and Airports Authority Of India in 2007, the advance technologies were implemented in the airport. Rajahmundry airport is the only airport in east and west Godhavari district.
The flights that fly from this airport are for Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Chennai. Recently the airport has started service for bigger aircrafts by broadening the runways.

Waterways in Rajahmundry
Rajahmundry serves as a main water transport hub. The waterway supports many purposes like pilgrimage, tourism, material transport, etc. The under developed water way has been awarded as Indian National Waterway connecting the Indian states Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. The Inland waterways Authority Of India is responsible for developing NW-4.
The Rajahmundry water ways has been recognized as national water ways for the transmission of cargos. The three national waterways existed from British era but Rajahmundry water ways has been labeled as national water ways recently.
Rajahmundry waterway is 1095km long with 15 number of terminals which is maintained, managed and developed by Inland Waterways Authority Of India and is operated by Central Inland water Transport Corporation. The National Water way-4 runs along the Coromandal Coast through Kakinada, Eluru, Commanur, Buckingham Canals and partly through Krishna and Godavari rivers in South India.
The waterway-4 connects the rivers and canals between Bhadrachalam-Rajahmundry-Kakinada-Eluru-Vijayawada and Chennai covering length of about 1,095km. The connectivity via water will be enriched with the completion of the project within the state and other states like Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, etc of India. The Polavaram canals will be connected with Vishakhapatnam port. The NW4 is centrally located in the River Godavari stretch from Bhadrachalam, Right Godavari canal to Kakinada and the left Godavari canal to Eluru. This enhances the connectivity of the city to important sea ports in the state.
The goods that are transported from this stretch that is from Bhadrachalam to Rajahmundry with improved navigation and transport are coal for Singareni collaries and bamboo, pulp, etc for forest-based industries like International Paper (Andhra Paper Mills), Bhadrachalam ITC Paper Mills etc.
